The story of a tonsillectomy

Today we got an EARLY start and headed to the surgery center to get Katie's tonsils taken out. It was a long time coming, and it was time to get it done.

We get back to the room, and emotions run the gamut...

Avoidance...watching cartoons.

Happy

Sad

And we waited for them to come take her to surgery.

I think the hardest part of the day was watching them wheel her down the hall to surgery, knowing she had quiet little tears running down her cheeks. About 30 minutes later they came out and told us she had done great, but then we had to wait longer for her to get out of recovery, which was the second hardest thing of the day.

Soon she was back in her room and enjoying an orange popsicle.

It was so hard to see her with her little hand wrapped up with the IV. That's really the only thing she complained about hurting.

While we waited she watched TV and played Leapster.

And soon it was time to go.

Daddy got her flowers. And Mimmi had sent a post-op present.

I must say this child amazes me. She claims her throat doesn't hurt, she's been talking, eating, drinking...you'd never know she just had her tonsils out. She keeps asking if she can read me a book LOL And I have to explain that I don't want her talking that much.

So, all in all, it went as well as it possibly could have, and hopefully we are on to much healthier times ahead for her.

Beth, I love the way you documented the "ordeal" in black and white for her...you truly have a gift for photography! Glad to hear she's doing so well. Isn't it amazing how resillient kids are?
